Serving Utah & IdahoAbout Attorney Jason MackrillI grew up in the United States with many friends, classmates, coworkers, and neighbors whose families immigrated to this country. Those relationships through the years have taught me an invaluable lesson. Every immigration story is a human story, and at the core of every immigration story are good people with families, fears, and dreams.That understanding is what inspired me to practice immigration law. Today, I have the privilege of helping individuals and families from around the world put down roots and build their futures here in the United States.I earned my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Spanish before serving as a federal law enforcement officer in the United States Coast Guard.As an attorney, I have worked in private practice and I have served as a county prosecuting attorney. I’ve spent years in the courtroom preparing cases and advocating for the people who place their futures in my hands. These experiences have taught me never to lose sight of the fact that people’s lives are profoundly impacted by the outcome of every case.Immigration law is personal to me. My wife is an immigrant, so the immigration system isn’t just something I’ve studied—it’s something I’ve lived—something my own family has experienced. That perspective has given me an even greater appreciation for the opportunities America offers and the courage it takes to build a life in a new country.I learned Spanish in school and while working in landscaping for six years alongside many immigrant workers. I speak Spanish fluently and prefer working with my clients in their own language because clear communication matters—especially because the legal process can be confusing and feel overwhelming. I strive to provide hope and comfort to my clients and their families while being candid about each client's particular situation.Away from the office, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, smoking brisket or some other kind of meat, grilling over charcoal, or cooking my favorite Mexican dishes. I have a long-running joke with my friends and family that I eat hotter food than most Mexicans! I’ve traveled throughout Mexico and Costa Rica and I fell in love with the beauty of those countries and the warmth and hospitality of their people, as well as the extraordinary sense of family that makes their cultures so strong.I believe the oak tree is a powerful metaphor for building a life in America. A giant oak doesn’t become immovable overnight. Every giant oak began as an acorn that left its home and took root in a new place.
